Quantum Expands Permian Basin Services

Midland/Odessa – Quantum Drilling Motors, the nation’s leading independent directional/horizontal drilling company, has expanded its service line in the Permian Basin.

Terry Morgan, regional manager for Quantum in the Permian, said the company now is operating MWD and gamma tools throughout the Permian. Quantum has operated its facility, which is located midway between Odessa and Midland, for more than three years, relying almost exclusively on downhole motor rentals.

“Our products and service-line expansion is in response to strong demand from our customers,” Morgan said. “In addition to the new equipment, we’ve added five experienced directional drillers to our Permian team.”

Quantum is headquartered in Oklahoma City. In addition to its presence in the Permian, Quantum has regional bases in Houston, TX, Casper, WY, and Lafayette, LA.

Quantum Posts Record Downhole Motor Runs

Quantum Drilling Motors continues to eclipse its own records for downhole runs of its performance drilling motors.

Earlier this spring, the company recorded an uninterrupted run of 320 hours on a downhole operation for Encana in the Wamsutter region of Wyoming. Quantum has also logged similar results in two major exploration areas in Texas. In both the Permian Basin and in the Cottonwood Valley play (Polk County), Quantum has registered runs in excess of 350 hours.

“These kinds of times between motor failures are critical to oil and gas exploration companies,” Quantum CEO Randy Holleyman said. “If the utilization of Quantum downhole motors, along with our experienced drilling personnel, adds 40% to an operator’s day rate, then we’ve got to prove every single day that we are saving that customer more than the additional cost of our motors.”

“Demand for our motors continues to increase,’ he said. “We have increased our company-owned downhole motor inventory, across all locations, by a 40% this year. That is testimony to our equipment, and to the people who operate and maintain it.”

Nazarian Joins Quantum as VP-Technology & Engineering

Roney Nazarian has joined the corporate management team at Quantum Drilling Motors. The Oklahoma City based drilling technology company created the position of vice-president of technology and engineering for Nazarian, a 29-year oilfield services veteran.

Nazarian, 51, was director of downhole instrumentation for National Oilwell Varco in Houston prior to joining Quantum on August 1st, 2007. He will be based out of Quantum’s regional offices in Sugarland, TX.

Nazarian, who began his oil and gas service industry career with Schlumberger in 1978, has degrees in physics, electrical engineering and an executive master’s in business administration.

“This is a new and challenging position with an aggressive young drilling technology company,” Nazarian said. “Quantum has been in what I would call an ‘entrepreneurial stage’ since it was started in 1998. We want to help it grow into a mid-sized, technology-focused player.”
